The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) helps people living with HIV get the HIV/AIDS drugs they need. Funded through the Rhode Island Department of Health, this program covers the costs of HIV drugs for low-income people who have limited or no coverage from private insurance or Medicaid. To be eligible for the program, a person must be a Rhode Island resident, have HIV, and have an income less than 4 times (400%) the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). For example, for a family of one, 400% of the poverty level is $38,280.

To apply for the ADAP program, you must complete an application with a case manager at a RI Department of Health funded community based organization and fax it to the Department of Health. The staff at Department of Health will determine your eligibility for the program and contact your pharmacy to enroll you in the program. For most people, enrollment into ADAP takes less than 48 hours. Please review the client agreement to understand the rules and guidelines of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program.

People who are enrolled on ADAP must be recertified every 6 months. You must fill out a form and send it to the Rhode Island Department of Health. Make sure to become a case management client at the agencies listed above.

There is an insurance continuation program, housing assistance, treatment adherence, dental coverage, and other services as well if you meet the income eligibility for those programs.
